Dorsis Fortius with transom panel — Installation instructions

Dorsis Fortius concealed door is optionally available with a transom panel. The following variants are common:

  1. Dorsis Fortius with a header jamb and a rectangular transom panel.
  2. Dorsis Fortius with a header jamb and a trapezoid transom panel (usually used with sloped/slanted ceilings).
  3. Dorsis Fortius full-height (floor-to-ceiling) with a transom panel.

The following instructions will explain to professional door installation crews how to install the transom panel with the full-height Dorsis Fortius frameless door.

Step 1: Identify the transom panel

  1. Locate the transom panel. Locate the transom panel. The transom panel may or may not have a rabbet edge (based on custom specifications).
  2. Locate the mounting brackets. There are two mounting brackets per side — a concealed side bracket (aluminum block) and a bottom bracket (stainless steel plate).

Step 2: Install the side bracket

  1. Locate two pre-drilled holes in the door jamb.
  2. The side bracket (aluminum block) has three pre-drilled holes: two for the door jamb and one for the bottom bracket. Make sure that the hole for the bottom bracket are facing down. Note, that the bottom edge of the aluminum block is 25 mm (~1") above the bottom edge of the wood transom.
  3. Fasten the side bracket to the door jamb using the included M5x35 mm socket head screws. Tighten with an Allen wrench (hex key), do not over-tighten.
  4. Repeat the installation of the side bracket on the opposite door jamb.

Step 3: Set the transom

  1. A transom for floor-to-ceiling door application may be taller than necessary, depending on the project specifications. Please make sure to check the height and trim the top edge of the transom panel as necessary.
  2. Using the included 4x50 mm wood screws, fasten the bottom brackets (rectangular stainless steel plate) to the pre-milled socket in the bottom edge of transom. Note that the wood screws are for the holes closer to the center of the transom panel.
  3. Place the transom right below the side bracket and check that the transom is resting on both sides against the door jamb.
  4. Slide the transom panel up all the way. The side channel is precision milled. The bracket should rest against the bottom side of the channel.

Step 4: Secure the transom

  1. Fasten the transom to the side brackets using the included M5x30 mm stainless steel machine screw. Use the holes closest to door jambs. Do not over-tighten.
  2. Repeat the step on the opposite side.
  3. Check that the panel is level and secure. You can use the machine screws to adjust the height of the transom. The gap between the transom and the door should match the gap between the door and the jamb (about 3 mm (~⅛").
