Verum Snapp turns recycled ocean plastic into incredible door handles

April 25, 2025

Verum, a premium Italian brand behind architectural door hardware, kicked off 2025 with a brand new, sustainable door lever collection called Verum Snapp. Made of old fishing nets, Snapp turns one of many ocean plastic waste products into a useful, beautiful product.

The collection marks Verum's first collaboration with Oceanworks, a Los Angeles-based organization fighting against ocean plastic pollution. Oceanworks sources the plastic resin pellets that Verum molds into door handles.

"Italy is a country surrounded by sea, so we are acutely aware of what healthy marine life means for our society," says Umberto Vergani, CEO of Verum Italy. "We are very proud of our engagement with the team at Oceanworks and collaboration with industrial designer Alessandro Stabile to create a beautiful, affordable, and sustainable product."

It's not Verum's first work with Alessandro Stabile — his Milan-based design studio worked on several handles in the Verum Nuda portfolio. Still, this project represented the first time the two companies worked on new door hardware made of recycled materials. The Snapp represented an unusual challenge for a company used to working with metal alloys — reprocessed post-consumer resin (PCR) is a relatively soft material compared to metal alloys — requiring the designer and Verum R&D team to work side by side to create a perfect, durable product.

Umberto Vergani's new mission didn't stop just at conceiving a sustainable product. Rather than having Verum manufacturing take over the production, the Snapp handles are assembled and packaged by a non-profit organization that provides job opportunities to people with disabilities, promoting their talents and social inclusion.

Verum Snapp proudly carries its Made in Italy brand, introducing a fresh take on sustainable materials used in interior design.

"To protect our planet and keep our lives healthy, we need to innovate," continues Umberto. "I'm thrilled when architects specify Snapp for contemporary interiors or multi-family residential buildings, and we all can actively support this sustainable and socially responsible project. Each use contributes to a cleaner, fairer future. With Snapp, you open the door to a better world."

Verum priced the new Snapp collection competitively, starting at an affordable price of US$29. The collection is available in five colors: blue, white, black, gray, and taupe. Just like other Verum door handles and knobs, Verum Snapp works with mechanical and magnetic locks.
